MSK Flashcards
Which test is used to assess anterior cruciate ligament integrity?
Lachman Test:
Patient lies supine with their knee in about 20-30 degrees flexion and externally rotated. Examiner places one hand behind the tibia and the other on the patient’s thigh.
Examiner’s thumb should be on the tibial tuberosity.
On pulling anteriorly on the tibia, the intact ACL should prevent forward translational movement of the tibia on the femur.
What test is used to assess for posterior cruciate ligament injury?
Posterior drawer test
What test is used to assess meniscal tears?
McMurray’s test
Presentation of patella dislocation
Caused by twisting injury or direct blow.
Presents with knee pain and the knee is held in flexion with lateral displacement of the patella
What condition does cirpofloxacin (fluoroquinolones) cause?
Achilles tendon rupture.
What is Simmonds/Thompson test and what is it used for?
Absence of normal plantar flexion on squeezing the calf muscle indicates a complete achilles tendon rupture (= +ve Simmonds Test).
What is the most common cause of Sciatica?
Herniated interveterbetral disc
What is malunion?
Healing of a fracture in an abnormal (nonanatomic) position.
