First line treatment for generalised tonic-clonic seizures:
Males: sodium valproate
Females: lamotrigine, levetiracetam
First and second line treatments for focal seizures:
1st - lamotrigine or levetiracetam
2nd - carbamazepine
First and second line treatments for absence seizures:
1st - ethosuximide
2nd - males - sodium valproate, females - lamotrigine or levetiracetam
Carbamazepine may exacerbate
Treatment for myoclonic seizures:
Males - sodium valproate
Females - levetiracetam
Treatment for tonic or atonic seizures:
Males - sodium valproate
Females - lamotrigine
