Cranial nerves
Olfactory (sensory) - smell
Optic (sensory) - Snellen, Static Finger Wiggle test, fundoscopic exam
Oculomotor (motor) - pupillary reaction (direct and consensual - parasympathetic), pupillary convergence, constriction and accommodation, 6 cardinal directions of gaze
Trochlear (motor) - 6 cardinal directions of gaze
Trigeminal (both) - pain and light touch sensation of face (eyebrow, cheeks and chin) by using sharp/dull and then wisp of cotton; muscles of mastication - chewing, biting lateral jaw movements
Abducens (motor) - 6 cardinal directions of gaze
Facial (both) - taste (anterior 2/3 of tongue); facial symmetry (movement of forehead and mouth); raise eyebrows, frown, show teeth, smile and puff out cheeks, close eyes; saliva and tear secretion (parasympathetic)
Vestibulocochlear (sensory) - Weber & Rinne tests
Glossopharyngeal (both) - swallowing, phonation (light, tight, dynamite); taste (posterior 1/3 of tongue); saliva and tear secretion (parasympathetic)
Vagus (both) - pharynx, larynx (talking and swallowing); general sensation in throat; palatial elevation (uvula midline)
Accessory (spinal) (motor) - movement of trapezius and sterno-mastoid muscles (shoulder movement, shoulder shrug, head rotation - pushed against examiner’s hand)
Hypoglossal (motor) - tongue symmetry and movement - protrude tongue, push tongue into cheek
