Propylthiouracil/ Methimazole

A

inhibits coupling of iodine & tyrosine
Cannot deactivate hormone already active
PREGNANCY CATEGORY D: PTU used 1st trimester, methimazole 2nd/3rd
May take three weeks to take effect
Do NOT eat iodized food
Take same time WITH food
AE: hairless, hepatotoxicity, vasculitis, pancreatitis
