Neuroanatomy Flashcards
Broca’s area
inferior frontal lobe near pre-frontal cortex
motor region for speech formulation
Wernicke’s Area
posterior lateral temporal lobe
parts of adjacent parietal and occipital lobes
sense of hearing
what sets of arteries supply the entire brain?
internal carotid and vertebral
anterior cerebral artery
- from internal carotid
- goes through longitudinal cerebral fissure
- supplies medial frontal and parietal lobes
anterior perforating substance
- supplied by several small arteries from MCA and ACA
- common location of strokes
- supply hypothalamus and basal ganglia
middle cerebral artery
- continues from ICA
- through lateral fissure
- supplies lateral surface of brain
Opthalmic Artery
- first branch off ICA inside space enclosed by dural sac
- branch of it becomes central artery to retina
anterior choroidal artery
- branch off ICA or MCA or PCA
- supplies choroid plexus and deeper structures
First branch off vertebral artery
posterior spinal artery
first branch off basilar artery
anterior inferior cerebellar arteries
posterior cerebral arteries
- termination of basilar artery
- supply part of midbrain, occipital lobe, inferior surface of temporal lobe
Connection between carotid and vertebral circulation
posterior communicating arteries
Circle of Willis
posterior cerebral, posterior communicating, internal carotids, anterior cerebral, anterior communicating
