Neuro Which Nerve Does What Flashcards
Which spinal nerve level gives innervation to the back and sides of the head?
c2
Which nerve gives sensory innervation to the face, and what are the divisions? Where does each division give innervation?
Trigeminal nerve gives sensory innervation to the face.
Ophthalmic division: to the forehead and top of the head
Maxillary division: to the cheeks, nose and upper lip
Mandibular division: to the chin, and a thin strip in front of ears to the temples.
Which spinal nerve level gives innervation to the front, sides and back of the neck?
C3
Which spinal nerve root gives sensory innervation to the lowest lateral part of the shoulders/tops of the arms?
C5
Which spinal nerve root level gives sensory innervation to the thumbs lateral half of index fingers, lateral half of forearms and inferior lateral arm?
C6
Which spinal nerve root level gives sensory innervation to the medial forearm?
T1
Which spinal nerve root level gives sensory innervation to the middle finger, half the index and half the ring finger?
C7
Which spinal nerve root level gives sensory innervation to the little finger and half of the ring finger?
C8
Which sensory nerve root gives sensory innervation to the nipple line?
T4
Which spinal nerve root level gives sensory innervation to the area just under the nipple line?

How do you determine of locations the thoracic spinal root dermatomes on the chest wall by using body landmarks?
The thoracic dermatomes appear as bands across the chest wall. T7 is the level of the xyphoid process, T10 is at the level of the umbilicus (belly button), then L1 is at the inguinal ligament, so you can count down to T12 above the inguinal ligament.
The higher thoracic dermatomes across the chest are fairly horizontal, but the lower ones angle inferiorly, t12 is at about 45degrees to the midline.
Describe the course of dermatome L5
It’s is a strip running from a high region of the buttocks posteriorly, down the most lateral part of the thigh, curving to run as a strip down the most anterior part of the lower leg and then over the superior part of the foot, including toes 2, 3 and 4. It also wraps under to give sensation to the central part of the base of the foot.
Describe the course of dermatome L4
It’s a strip running from a high region of the buttocks posteriorly, curving round the lateral thigh to pass over the kneecap anteriorly. It then continues down while crossing over to the medial aspect of the lower leg. It innervates the medial anterior foot and the big toe.
What do S2 S3 and S4 give sensory innervation to?
The penis and area around the anus, they also control erection.
(s2,3,4 keep the penis of the floor)
What is the spinal root level for the Biceps reflex?
C5, C6
