What are the similarities and differences in the common presentations of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and HOCM?

A

Both commonly first present with syncope (fainting).
Other common symptoms are angina pain and palpitations.
Both can have an S4 heart sound.

Only HOCM has a systolic crescendo decrecendo murmur in the aortic region (like aortic stenosis murmur).
Only HOCM can present as sudden death on exertion.

How does dilated cardiomyopathy present?

A

SOB on exertion (Dyspnoea). Left heart failure signs, wheezing,
s3 heart sound.

A

Severe SOB, left and right heart failure, kussmaul sign, ascites, edema.
