Neuro Tracts Flashcards
3 major categories of tests in the motor test
- strength (power)-cortical system
- coordination and balance (cerebellum, proprioception, vestibular system)
- scale of movement: speed, size, involuntary movements (basal ganglia/nuclei)
Cerebellar systems
Vestibulo-cerebellar system
Spinocerebellar system
Cerebrocerebellar system
Proprioception
Information from muscle and tendon stretch from stretch receptors sent to the somatosensaory cortex and the cerebellum
Cerebellar function tests
Cerebellar tests: gait, heel to toe, essentially sobriety tests. Ask patient to reach out and touch finger tip and come back or finger to nose. Dragging heel up shin. Rapid rhythmi hand movements and keeping the movements in synchronized
Cerebellar damage
Cerebellar damage: action or intention tremor. Happens during performance of movement, but is not there when they are still
BG degeneration
Parkinson’s
Huntington’s
Hypo/hyperkinesis
BG infants
Hemi-ballism (Ballistic movement)
Athetosis: hyperkinesia/dyskinesia
