What is the % of children that will have at least one seizure
4-6%
If a patient’s mental status is depressed and dehydration exist what is given
Fluid challenge - 20mL/Kg (neonate 10mL/kg)
If mental status is depressed and respiratory is depressed what is given
Narcan - 0.1 mg/kg (max. dose 2 mg). May repeat every 5 mins
If poisoning is suspected who is contacted
Poison control (1800-222-1222)
ALS level 1 drugs for seizures
a. Valium - 0.2 mg/kg (max. dose 5 mg) May repeat once to max. 10 mg
b. Versed - 0.1 mg/kg (max. dose 4 mg) IV/IO. For IN or IM 0.2 mg/kg/dose (use 10 mg/2mL conc.) (max. dose 5 mg) May repeat once to max. 10 mg
ALS level 2 for seizures
Call of orders for additional benozdiazepine
Violent patients w/ elevated temperature above 100*F should be
Cooled using cold packs to head, axilla and groin (goal is temp below 100*F)
ALS level 1 drugs for Violent patient
a. Valium
b. Versed
c. Benadryl
What is the dose for Benadryl for a violent patient
1 mg/kg (max dose 50 mg) IM, SLOW IV
If admins. IV - dilute in 9mL saline
In pediatric overdose when intubating what type of ETT should be used
A “cuffed tube” to prevent aspiration
If narcotic overdose is suspected what is given
Narcan - 0.1 mg/kg (max. 2 mg) IV/IO/IN/IM every 5 mins
If tricyclic antidepressant overdose is suspected what is given
Sodium Bicarbonate - 1 mEq/kg IV/IO
If a patient is bitten by a snake what is done
a. Splint the affected area
b. Position patient in supine position w/ extremities in neutral position
c. Remove jewelry
d. Wash affected area with water
What should be check when a patient is bitten by a snake
a. Temperature
b. Pulse distal to bite on an extremity
c. Mark level of swelling and time every 15 mins.
How should the stinger be removed from an insect bite
Scraping with edge of credit card
clean with soap/water
