Neuro Midterm Flashcards
Lissauer’s Tract
small tract consisting of collateral branches from DRG spreading pain info up and down a level before entering the gray matter.
Dorsal Rhizotomy
Severing dorsal roots
Anterolateral Cordotomy
damaging the lateral spinothalamic tract (in SC).
Open Cordotomy
spinal cord is surgically exposed and the reigon of the spinal thalamic tract is severed
Percutaneous cordotomy
Spinal cord is stimulated at lateral spinothalamic tract until patient reports the pain is diminished. Needle is then heated and destroys the fibers in that region of the cord.
Syringomyelia
Fluid filled cavity compressing fibers. Initially results in a bilateral loss of pain and temperature over affected segments.
Brown Sequard Syndrome
Hemisection of the spinal cord. Resulting in paralysis and loss of proprioception on the same (or ipsilateral) side as the injury or lesion, and loss of pain and temperature sensation on the opposite (or contralateral) side as the lesion.
Arnold Chiari Syndrome
Displacement of caudal cerebellum (tonsils) into the foramen magnum
