Divisions of Spinal Cord Gray Matter Flashcards
Substantia Gelatinosa
In DORSAL HORN, along ENTIRE CORD, modulates incoming pain
Nucleus Proprius
in DORSAL HORN, along ENTIRE CORD.
Incoming sensory; esp. pain, temp and touch.
Fibers cross and form ascending tracts; LATERAL SPINTOTHALAMIC tract
Nucleus Dorsalis
in DORSAL HORN (C8-L2), sensory for nonconcious proprioception.
Fibers give rise to DORSAL SPINOCEREBELLAR tract
Medial Motor Cell Column
in VENTRAL HORN, along ENTIRE CORD.
LMN cell bodies that innervate trunk muscles.
Lateral Motor Cell Column
in VENTRAL HORN
C5-T1: LMN cell bodies whose fibers exit to innervate UPPER EXTREMITY
L2-S3/S4: LMN cell bodies whose fibers innervate LOWER EXTERMITY
Spinal Accessory Nucleus
in VENTRAL HORN (C1-C6): LMN cell bodies whose fibers exit the spinal cord to form the SPINAL ACCESSORY NERVE –> innervates TRAPS and STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID muscles
Phrenic Nucleus
in VENTRAL HORN (C3, C4, C5) LMN cell bodies whose fibers form the motor component of the PHRENIC NERVE for innervation of DIAPHRAGM
Intermediolateral Cell Column
in INTERMEDIATE ZONE (T1-L3): PREGANG. SYMP cell bodies who’s fibers exit spinal cord to synapse on ganglia, forms lateral horn in thoracic cord region.
Sacral Parasympathetic Nucleus
in INTERMEDIATE ZONE (S2-S4): PREGANG. PARASYMP cell bodies who’s fibers exit spinal cord to synapse on ganglia, provides innervation to DESCENDING COLONG, SIGMOID COLON, and PELVIC VISCERA.
