guillain barre
tx of guillan barre:
admit to hospital b/c of risk of respiratory failure, supportive, can do immunoglobulin therapy, nO steroids
what disease?spastic dysarthria, increased gag reflex, tongue fasciculations, limb weakness, impaired cognition
ALS
test that needs to be done in ALS to confirm LMN degeneration
needle electromyography (assesses electrical activity of muscle fibers)
ddx of ALS
spinal cord lesions, spinal bone lesions (imaging for both), infections, endocrine disorders (hyperthyroidism, hyperparathryoiridms, toxins, MS,MG, spinal muscular atrophy, idiopathic inflammatory myositis
canadian head CT rules:
2 episodes of vomiting, age >65, amnesia before impact, dangerous mechanism
Sudden, painless, often complete loss of vision (not patchy, peripheral, central, just darkness)
central retinal artery occlusion
