What does a general neuro assessment include?
- PEARLA
- GCS
- LOC
- reflexes
- strength in arms and legs bilaterally
- inspection for drooping of face / weakness bilaterally
- sensory perception level
- Orientation x 3
- Kernigs + Badinski ??
What are signs of stroke?
- Affected side of face will droop
- weakness/ inability to control movements
- constriction of affected pupil
- slurred speech
- Confusion
- Orientation compromised
- LOC compromised
What do you do when pt having a seizure
Call for help Move things out of the way place pillow under head Move pt to floor if in chair Dont put anything in their mouth Recovery position post seizure + VS
IF SEIZURE DOESNT STOP, more than 2 min
Needs to be stopped with medication
Precautions for spinal chord injuries?
Keep body stable
Do not induce autonomic dysreflexia, prevent stimuli (full bladder, restrictive clothing etc.)
Check reflexes, strength, sensation, color, assess which part is injured based on these
No meds PR
What to assess with head injury?
Signs of increased ICP ( Decreased LOC, change in BP, confusion, altered vision)
amnesia( concussion) - post concussion syndrome
wounds/ injuries
Bleeding - hematoma
Leakage of CF from ears- halo test.
What are types of headaches?
Cluster- one side, most painful, wakes you up
Migraine - pulsing, throbbing, nausea, disturbed vision, aura
tension type - Squeezing , most common, tight band
