What is the purpose of a router?
A router is a device that transfers data intelligently from one network to another. It forwards data packets to their destination by the most efficient route.

A device that connects two local area networks (LANS), or two segments of the same LAN that use the same protocol.
What is the purpose of a network hub?
A hub is a simple network device that connects multiple computers together.
What is the purpose of a network switch?
A switch is a network device that connects multiple computers together.
What is the difference between a network hub and a network switch?
A switch connects any two computers together when passing data packets. A hub sends the data packet from one computer to every other computer connected to the hub.
What is the purpose of a network interface card?
A network interface card is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a network, also known as a network adapted. These are now built into the motherboards of most computers rather than separate cards.
What is the purpose of a network repeater?
A network repeater is used to boost the signal when joining two long network cables together. Used when covering distances over 100m+.
What is the purpose of a modem?
A modem converts the digital data from the computer to a form that can be sent over a telephone or fiber optic line.
What is the purpose of a wireless access point?
A wireless access point allows devices to connect to it wirelessly using WiFi. The WAP is wired into the rest of the network giving wireless devices access to the wired network.
