Networking Devices Flashcards
What are a Cat5, Cat5e, and Cat6 cables?
Copper Cables
What is Crosstalk?
When electrical pulse on one wire is accidentally detected on another wire
What is a Hub?
A physical layer device that allows for connections from many computers at once
What is a Collision Domain?
A network segment where only one device can communicate at a time
What is a network switch?
Similar to a hub. But is a layer 2 device allowing it to look at the data to make sure it sends to the right system
What are the primary devices used to connect computers on a single network?
Hubs and Switches
What does LAN stand for?
Local Area Network
What is a router?
A device that knows how to forward data between independent networks
What layer does a router operate at?
Layer 3
What is BGP?
Border Gateway Protocol
Routers share data with each other via this protocol, which lets them learn about the most optimal paths to forward traffic.
