3
Q

LAN = Local Area Network

A

LAN’s are what topologies are stored/made on
They can be found anywhere in the world and it doesn’t cover a large amount of space
Found in a Single site

Q

WAN = Wide Area Network

A

WAN’s have 5 the same use as LAN’s however they’re kept on a much larger scale, they can cover over 2km(squared)
Operates on multiple sites, made up from LAN’s

Q

Bus Topology

A
Oldest topology
If one node fails in the bus, the whole thing does
Single backbone
Poor security
Mostly used in small networks
Nodes can easily be added

Q

Ring topology

A
Problems can be difficult to identify
Transferred quickly
Not affected by heavy traffic
If one node fails then some of the network fails, not the whole thing
Privacy/Security issue
Nicknamed “Token”
More work stations are able to connect

Q

Star topology

A
Costly
Easily managed
No collisions
Adding/Removing hosts are easy
Faster
Can be operated by a Hub or Switch
The whole thing fails if the centers node fails
If individual node fails then only that node is affected
Network determines the performance

Q

Mesh topology

A
Requires a lot of devices
Broken node doesn’t affect anything
Requires continuous supervision
Can handle high amount of network
Self healing
Flooding technique
Small organization
