Network Topologies Flashcards
1
Q
What is a star topology?
A
A topology where all the devices are connected to a central switch or server that controls the network
2
Q
What is are the advantages of using a star topology?
A
High performance, very few data collisions, If a device fails the rest of the network isn’t affected
3
Q
What is are the disadvantages of using a star topology?
A
If there is a problem with the switch then the whole network is affected, expensive
4
Q
What is a bus topology?
A
All devices arranged in a line connected to a single cable
5
Q
What is a ring topology?
A
Devices arranged in a ring, but only one device can send data at a time
6
Q
What is a Mesh topology?
A
All devices in the network are directly connected to each-other
