What is a protocol?
A set of rules for how devices communicate and how data is transmitted
What is a MAC address?
a 48 or 64-bit binary numbers which are converted into hexidecimal
What are MAC addresses used by?
An ethernet protocol on LANs
When are IP addresses used?
When sending data between TCP/IP networks
What are static IP addresses?
permanent addresses
What is a dynamic IP address?
An address that changes every time it connects
What are IP addresses?
32-bit binary numbers that are converted into four denary numbers
What does data split into when it is being transmitted between networks?
equal-sized packets
What is packet switching used to do?
direct the data
What does TCP stand for?
Transmission Control Protocol
What does a TCP protocol do?
Sets the rules for how devices connect on the network

Internet Protocol
