Network Tools Flashcards
1
Q
Cable Crimpers
A
-Pinch the connector onto the wire
- Connect the modular connector to Ethernet cable
- Final step of process
- Metal prongs are pushed through insolation
- Plugs are permanently pressed onto cable jacket
2
Q
Multimeter
A
- AC Voltage
- Check wall outlet voltage
- DC Voltage
- PC power supply output voltages
- CMOS battery power
- Continuity
- Cable connectivity ; fuse stats ; wire mapping
3
Q
Toner Probe
A
- Where does it go (wire)
- Follow the tone
- Tone Generator
- Puts an analog sound on the wire
Inductive probe
- Doesn't need to touch copper - Hear through a small speaker
4
Q
Cable Tester
A
- Relatively Simple
- Continuity test
-Can identify missing pins or crossed wires
- Not usually used for frequency testing
- Crosstalk , signal loss , etc.
5
Q
Loopback Plugs
A
- Useful for testing physical ports
- Or fooling your application
- Serial / RS - 232 (9 pin or 25 pin)
- Network Connection (Ethernet , T1 , Fiber)
- They are not crossover cables
6
Q
Punch-down Tool
A
- Punch a wire into a wiring block
- 66 block
- 110 block
- Can be tedious ( Everything wire individually punched)
- Trim the wires during the process (very efficient)
7
Q
Wireless Analysis
A
- Wireless network are the easiest to monitor
- Everything “hears” everything
- Purpose-built hardware or mobile device add-on
- Specializes 802.11 analysis
-Identify errors & interference
