what is a virus?
a localised piece of malware that can corrupt a system or change data which may cause it to stop working. it is only activated when opened by a human and from there it attaches to files; infecting them.
what is a worm?
malware that can replicate itself and spread through systems by finding weaknesses in software. It does not need an infected file or human interaction to spread.
What is a Trojan horse
A harmful program that looks like legitimate software. It gives the attacker backdoor access to the system but they don’t self replicate
what is spyware?
Secretly records activities of a user on a computer whether aim is to record personal info. All recorded info secretly pass back to the attacker.
What is a keylogger
Secretly record is the key presses of a news on a computer where the aim is to record personal information. They can be downloaded or plugs into the USB port.
What is Ransomware
Looks falls on a computer system so that the user can no longer access them. From here the attacker demands money from the victim.
What is an SQL injection?
Structured query language is a programming language used for manipulating data and databases. It is a malicious command that is entered into the data input box to receive unauthorised access to the website’s database.
What is a DOS attack?
When a computer repeatedly sends requests to a server to overload the system this will end up slowing the system down and may take the website off-line.
What is a DDOS attack
When a botnet of infected systems overload a server with requests. a botnet is a large group of devices controlled by the attacker.
