What is a computer network?
A system of interconnected computers and devices that can communicate with each other and share resources.
LAN
connects devices within a limited area
WAN
network that covers a large geographical area
MAN

PAN
very small area
VPN
secure network that allows devices to connect to another network over a private connection

provide services and resources to other devices
DHCP
automatically assigns IP addresses to devices in a network
NIC
a hardware component in a device that enables it to connect to a network

Router
devices that direct traffic between different networks
Switches
devices that connect devices within a local network
Hubs
basic devices that connect multiple devices within a local network
Bridges
connects two or more network segments
What is a bit? What is a byte?
A hit is the smallest unit of data (0 or 1)
A byte consist of 8 bits
Bytes are used to measure the size of files, memory, and storage devices.
