How are minor rules penalized?
Penalized with a free pass awarded to the other team
Held Ball
Player must release the ball within 3 seconds.
Stepping
A player in the possession of the ball may not drag or slide the landing foot. They are also not allowed to walk or run with the ball.
Breaking
This occurs when a player steps into the Centre third before the whistle is blown to start play.
Over a third
The ball cannot be thrown over a complete third of the court without being touched or caught by a player.
Intimidation
Examples are waving hands in front of face, verbal intimidation, stamping feet.
How are major rules penalized?
Penalized with a penalty pass or shot awarded to the other team
Obstruction
A player attempting to intercept or defend the ball must be at least 3ft (0.9m) away from the player with the ball. This distance is measured from the landing foot of the player in possession of the ball.
Contact
This occurs when a player’s actions interfere with an opponent’s play whether these are accidental or deliberate.
Intimidation
Examples are waving hands in front of face, verbal intimidation, stamping feet.
Wing attack
Allowed in both the centre third and goal third in the direction their team is shooting
Not allowed in the shooting circle
They primarily mark the opposing Wing Defence (WD) and pass the ball to the Goal Shooter or Goal Attack
Goal Attack
Allowed in both centre third and goal third they are shooting in
One of two players allowed to shoot
They primarily mark the opposing Goal Defence (GD) and assist the Goal Shooter (GS)
Goal shooter
Allowed in the attacking goal third, including the shooting circle
One of the two players allowed to shoot
Their primary role is to score goals and mark the opposing Goal Keeper (GK)
Goal Keeper
Only allowed in their defensive goal third
Including the shooting circle, in order to defend their goal
They primarily mark the opposing Goal Shooter (GS)
Goal Defence
Allowed in the center third
Their defensive third, including the shooting circle
They primarily mark the opposition team’s Goal Attack (GA)
