Epilepsy
Client may be prone to seizures, some massage movements can be too rhymical which could result in the client having a seizure
Adjust the sequence of massage to avoid the massage becoming too rythmical and avoid working over one area for too long
If using pre-blended massage oil avoid those which contain stimulating oils
Monitor client continuously to reduce risk of seizure
High/low blood pressure
Circulatory system will be stimulated therefore monitor client responses throughout treatment, pressure of massage may be adapted
Lighter pressure used to reduce the stimulation of blood flow
Avoid pre-heat and mechanical massage treatments completely
If using pre-blended massage oil be aware of content
Clients with low blood pressure should be given extra time to get of plinth
Uncontrolled diabetes
Lighter pressure should be applied to avoid skin damage - bruising
Some clients may experience lack of tactile sensation in some areas
Skin sensation test should be conducted prior to massage and extra coverings should be available due to reduced body temperature
Varicose Veins
Avoid massage directly over area
Movements can be applied to, from and around to avoid damage to tissues around vein
Undergoing medical treatment
Therapist must consider medical condition undergoing medical/examination and should adapt their massage accordingly
History of thrombosis
Massage movements used may cause clot to move or disperse
Therapist must remain aware if client complains of a pain in calf or back of thigh, when massaging be vigilant over those areas and check for swelling or tense and hard muscles
May need to conduct GP immediately if necessary
Metal plates and pins
Over area where plates/pins are located vigorous or deep movements should be avoided
Medication
Therapist must consider the medical condition taking medication for and should adapt massage accordingly
Piercings
Ask client to remove piercing
Work around area to avoid damaging the skin

Cover area and work around
During Cancer Treatment
Cancer is abnormal growth of cells developing in different forms within there body affecting blood/skin
The disease can develop into a tumour also affecting the brain, lungs and the major organs of the body
