Nervous Tissue/System Flashcards
What is the CNS composed of?
The brain and spinal cord.
What divisions is the PNS made of?
Sensory division and motor division.
What is somatic sensory?
Receptors, skeletal muscles, joints, skin, everything outside ventral body cavity.
What is visceral sensory?
Info from everything within ventral body cavity.
What is special sensory?
Taste, vision, hearing, smell, balance, etc.
What is somatic motor?
Voluntary movement
What is visceral motor(autonomic nervous system)?
Involuntary movements
What is the nervous system responsible for?
The regulation and coordination of all activities of the body.
What is sensory input?
Gather info from environment inside and outside of body.
What is integration?
Analyze info and make a decision.
What is motor output?
Telling a part of the body to do something.
What are neuroglia?
Supporting cells
What are the functions of neuroglia?
Make myelin, make supporting framework for cells, deliver nutrients to neurons, regulate environment of CNS, help neurons grow and make synapses with other cells, perform phagocytosis, form Blood-Brain Barrier.
What does the Blood-Brain barrier do?
It prevents sudden changes in the fluid around the neurons.
What are the two parts of the nervous system?
The Central Nervous System(CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System(PNS)
