Nervous Tissue Flashcards
What does the Central Nervous System Consist of?
Brain and spinal cord.
Made up of brain cells that carry nerve impulses.
What is nervous tissue made of?
Nerve cells called neurons.
What are neurons?
Cells that receive and facilitate nerve impulses,or action potentials and passes them onto the next neuron.
What is a synapse?
A junction between two nerve cells
Synapse function?
To transfer electric activity (information) from one cell to another.
Can be nerve to nerve or nerve to muscle.
What is the resting potential?
neuron when it is not transmitting an action potential and it is at rest.
What is the action potential?
when different ions cross the neuron membrane.
Where are neurotransmitters found?
At the axon terminal
Neurotransmitters function?
send information between neurons by crossing a synapse
