Muscle tissues Flashcards
Where are the skeletal muscles found?
Attached to bones.
Can control its contraction and relaxation.
Where are the cardiac muscles found?
Only in the heart.
Not under voluntary control
Where are the smooth muscles found?
In the walls of hollow organs. Eg. stomach
Not under voluntary control
What are muscles made of?
Muscles are composed of cells that are elongated and form fibers
Properties of Slow-twitch fibres?
Contract slowly.
Less powerful over long periods of time.
Suited for aerobic respiration
Properties of Fast-twitch fibres?
Contract rapidly, short time, very powerful.
Suited for anaerobic respiration.
Sport example- slow-twitch fibres?
Long distance running/cycling
Sport example- fast-twitch fibres?
Jumping, sprinting
