Nervous Tissue Flashcards
What are the basic parts of a neuron and their roles?
dendrites - receive incoming signals
soma/cell body - generates response
nucleus - heart of soma
axon - carries impulses from soma to end boutons
myelin sheath - insulates axon to raise speed of impulses
end boutons - send impulses to other neurons/cells
What are the two important properties of a neuron? Meanings?
Excitability - transform all types of energy into electricity
Conductivity - transmit electrical impulses
What’s the mnemonic for the cranial nerves?
