NERVOUS SYSTEMS: Flashcards
Featrues on the CNS
Central nervous system:
Skull and spine
Cortex, nuclei and spinal cord
Encased in bones
Poor at fixing its self as it can’t regenerate
features of the PNS
Peripheral nervous system
Nerves and ganglions(cluster of cells associated with nerves)
It can regrow after damage
the 2 types of PNS
autonomic and somatic
what does the somatic peripheral system do
Controls voluntary movement
what does the Autonomic peripheral do?
Controls involutory
Controls smooth muscle, any glands, lungs and heart
Has two components(sympathetic, parasympathic )
para vs sympathetic
Para: rest and digest
Sympathetic: fight of flight
describe the movement circuit
Sensory input - Receptors monitor change, from afferent nerves
Integration- Info is processed and a decsions is made
Motor output -Effector organs and stimulated
Effected by efferent nerves
what are the 7 sensory afferent senses
Visual
Auditory
Olfactory
Gustatory(taste)
Tactile(touch)
Vestibular: sense of head movement)
Proprioceptive( sensations from the muscles and joints of the body)
