Nervous system L5 Flashcards
The nervous system provides the body with …… & ……. functions.
Control
Sensory
Structural unit of the nervous system is …….
Neuron
Functional unit of the nervous system is…….
Reflex arc
Mention the parts of the Neuron:
- Cell body (stroma) : control the activity of the whole neuron.
- Processes: dendrites & axon
Compair between dendrites and axon
- Dendrites: multiple Short branched receptive parts. conduct impulses to the cell body and increase the surface area
- Axon: single long conduting parts. conduct impulses away from the cell body.
mention the three tipes of neuro-junctions.
- neuromuscular junction (muscle)
- neuroepithelial junction (gland)
- neuroneural junction (neuron)
Mention the types and functions of neurons.
- Afferent (sensory) : it carries impulses from receptors to CNS
- Efferent (motor) : carries impulses from CNS to effector organs
- Interneurons (associative) : act as link
What are the functions of interneurons cells?
- they act as a linker
- they lie inside the CNS
- they are the most abundant neurons
Define refle reflex action:
involuntary response of apart of the body to a stimulus.
mention the components of the reflex arc:
- receptors
- Afferent
- center
- Efferent
- Effectors
What are the parts of the nervous system?
- CNS
- PNC
Define the central nervous system:
the part of the nervous system which is protected by bone (skull and vertebral column)
What are the parts of the central nervous system in details?
- Brain ( 2 hemispheres):
- cerebrum (cerebral cortex & subcortical center s)
- brain stem (midbrain, pons & medulla oblongata)
- cerebellum
- spinal cord (31 segments)
- cervical 8
- thoracic 12
- lumbar 5
- sacrum 5
- coccy 1
Define the PNS
part of the nervous system which provide communication between the CNS and other tissues by nerves.
Classify the peripheral nervous system according to anatomical classification:
- 12 cranial nerves
- 31 spinal nerves
