NERVOUS SYSTEM II Flashcards
Enclosed in the spine
CNS: Spinal Cord
Extends from foramen magnum to L2
CNS: Spinal Cord
Inferior end of spinal cord that resembles as horse’s tail
Cauda equina
Function: center of reflex, provide tracts to carry information to brain, transmit motor instructions to muscles or glands
CNS: Spinal Cord
Two tracts of Spinal Cord
Descending and Ascending tracts
brain towards spinal cord, down to effector organ
descending tract
info towards brain
ascending tracts
Pain, temperature, touch, pressure, tickle, itch:
spinal cord to thalamus of brain
spinothalamic tract
Deep pressure and vibrations
dorsal column
Proprioception, awareness to movement and body position: spinal cord to cerebellum of brain
spinocerebellar tract
cerebral cortex to spinal cord; controls skeletal muscle movements
Corticospinal tract
motor impulses to limbs for movement
Rubrospinal tract
maintains posture when body is in motion
Reticulospinal tract
impulses to limbs, neck, back ; maintains upright posture
Vestibulospinal tract
relays impulses to muscles of head and trunk in response to visual and auditory stimuli
Tectospinal tract
Partially divides the spinal cord from right and left portion
ANTERIOR MEDIAN FISSURE and POSTERIOR MEDIAN SULCUS
