What is the cerebellum? What are its main functions?
- Located behind the top part of the brain stem
- Coordinates voluntary movements such as posture, balance, coordination, and speech, resulting in smooth and balanced muscular activity.
What is the cerebrum? What are its main functions?
The cerebrum is divided into four different part called lobes that control senses, thoughts, and movements.
What is a neurone?
A specialised cell transmitting nerve impulses; a nerve cell.
What is a nerve?
Bundle of fibres in the body that transmits impulses of sensation to the brain or spinal cord, and impulses from these to the muscles and organs.
What is an enzyme?
A substance produced by a living organism which acts as a catalyst (motivation ) to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
Describe the ‘lock and key’ model
The lock is the enzyme and the key is the substrate. The correct ‘lock and key’ will create a reaction whereas the incorrect pair will create no reaction.
