Nervous System (19) Flashcards
Function of nervous system?
Determines response of the body to changes in its environment
What is a neuron? Function?
Function- sensory, motor, interneuron
Morphology - unipolar, bipolar, multipolar
Central nervous system?
Brain and spinal cord
Peripheral nervous system?
Nerves and ganglia outside the CNS
Somatic Nervous System?
Sensory or motor fibbers to skin and voluntary skeletal muscles
Visceral nervous system?
Sensory or motor fibres to visceral, glands and involuntary muscles
Where are the cranial nerves found and what is their function?
They are found in the PNS in the brain case and ganglia outside the brain stem.
They convey information from the sense organs
What does the autonomic nervous system consist of? Functions?
- sympathetic nervous system - ‘fight or flight” response
- parasympathetic nervous system - ‘rest and digest’ response
Spinal cord?
Receives impulses, integrates and coordinates them. Then transmits them within the CNS
Spinal nerves ?
- dorsal root
-ventral root
Forebrain?
- Telencephalon and Diencephalon
Midbrain?
- Tectum and Cerebral peduncles
Hindbrain?
Pons, cerebellum and cerebellum.
Medulla oblong at a
