Nervous System Flashcards
Term 1
Stimulus
Change in environment
Automatic response
Reflex Reaction
Bypasses brain. The signal travels from the nerves to the CNS but is only received by the spine
Conscious thought
Goes to the brain. The brain will decide how to act based on the stimulus
Reflex Reaction
Signal travels from receptors, through the sensory neurons to the spine. Bypasses the brain. Reaction then travels from motor neurons to the Muscles.
Immediate and subcosncious action
Central Nervous System
CNS
Sends electrical impluses around the body
Brain + Spine
Peripheral System
Feeds information to brain from senses
Nerves
Receptors
Sense change
Stimulus
Sensory Neruons
Send signal to CNS
Afferent
Effectors
Response to stimulus
Motor Neurons
Send signal from CNS to effectors
Efferent
