nervous system Flashcards
how does the nervous system work?
messages transmits to neurons via electrical and chemical impulses sent from the pheriferal parts if the body to internal ins resulting in a reaction.
what are the three types of neutrons?
sensory
relay
motor
what do neutrons communicate through?
synaptic gaps
what do sensory neurone do?
transmits impulses rom the receptors in the sense organs e.g eyes, skin, to the brain
what do relay neutrons do?
transmits nerve impulses from the sensory neuron’s to the motor neuron located in the CNS
what do all neurone contain?
axon
cell body
dendrites
describe what myelinated means?
it means having a myelin sheath
what is basal surface?
bottom edge of the cell or tissue adjacent to the basement membrane
what is apical surface?
the top edge of the cell or tissue outwards facing
what is connective tissue made up from?
extracullar matrix
cells
fibres
describe the shape of a cuboidal cell?
spherical nucleus
what two things does the CNS contain?
brain and spinal cord
what is the peripheral nervous system?
outside of the body example such as blinking
what is somatic and autonomic?
voluntary and involuntary
what is the sympathetic nervous system?
fight or flight instincts increase bp and hr and also dilated pupils
