Q

Cerebellum

A
  • sits beneath the cerebrum
  • controlling motor skills and balance
  • co-ordinating muscles to allow precise movements
  • abnormalities in this area can lead to speech, motor problems and epilepsy

Q

Thalamus

A
  • relay station for nerve impulses coming from the senses
  • routes them to the appropriate part of the brain where they can be processed

Q

Somnatic nervous system

A
  • transmits infomation from the receptor cell in sense organs to the CNS
  • receives information from the CNS that directs muscles to act
  • made up of 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves
  • both have sensory and motor neurons
  • S -> relay to CNS m -> from CNS
  • involves in reflex actions without CNS = very quick

Q

Peripheral nervous system

A
  • contains all the nerves outside the CNS
  • main function is to relay never impulses from the CNS to the rest of the body, and vice-versa

16
Q

Parasympathetic nervous system

A
  • relaxes a person again after the sympathetic branch has pushed them into action
17
Q

Central nervous system

A
  • comprises the brain and spinal cord and receives information from the senses and controls the bodys responses
18
Q

Brain

A
  • an organ that has billions of neural cross connections and it’s higher functions will provide us with consciousness
19
Q

Spinal cord

A
  • a bundle of nerve fibres enclosed in the spinal column and which connects nearly all the parts of the body to the brain
20
Q

How is the central nervous system divided

A

Spine — brain

21
Q

How is the peripheral system divided up

A

Peripheral
-
Autonomic — somatic
-
Sympathetic — parasympathetic
