Q

Meninges

A

Covers the brain and spinal cord, three layers are: Dura matter- the outermost layer. Arachnoid matter - dine delicate fibers and resembles a spider web. Pia matter - directly contacts the brain and spinal cord

Gray matter of the brain and spinal cord

A

consists of neuron cell bodies and unmylinated axons, form gyri (folds) and sucli of the cerebral cortex

Q

Basal ganglia

A

gray matter nuclei embedded deep in hemispheres, primary involved in motor control, also involved in motor learning, higher level cognitive skills behavior and emotions

Q

White matter of the brain and spinal cord

A

consists of mylinated axons, connect of the different regions of the brain, the corpus callosum is a primary connecting bundle of white matter between the left and right brain hemisphere, association tracts connect areas in the same hemisphere, projection tracts connect the cortex with the spinal cord, commissural tracts connect the left and right hemispheres

Q

Cerebrospinal fluid

A

Produced by specialized ependymal cells of the choroid plexus within the ventricles of the brain, cushions and protects the brain and spinal cord, monitors the central nervous systems internal environment. Located in the subarachnoid space

What is Alzheimer

A

A neurodiginerative disease, caused by breakdowns of proteins between neurons, tau protein build up, chronic inflammation, vascular disease, and brain atrophy

Q

What is lewy body dementia

A

neurodegenerative disease, lewy bodies form in the brainstem and cortex, they block production and transmission of dopamine,

Q

How are Lewy body, alzheimer’s and parkinson’s similar

A

alzheimer’s and Lewy body cause amyloid plaques and tau neurofibrillary, Parkinson’s and Lewy body cause motor dysfunctions
