Nervous system Flashcards
What are the two components of the nervous system?
CNS and PNS
What are the two components of the CNS?
Brain and the Spinal chord
What are the two parts of the PNS?
The Somatic Nervous system and the Autonomic nervous system
What are the two parts of the Autonomic nervous system?
the Sympathetic and the Parasympathetic nervous system
What is the role of the spinal Cord?
- To deliver information to the brain
- To respond with reflex actions
What is the role of the peripheral nervous system?
To relay in formation from the CNS to the rest of the body
What is the role of the Somatic nervous system?
To communicate sensory information to the CNS and back
What neurons does the Somatic Nervous system contain?
Sensory (carry info to spinal cord) and Motor (allows for movement commands)
What is the role of the autonomic nervous system?
To control homeostasis
What does the sympathetic nervous system do?
it is an up regulator, preparing us for fight or flight by increasing perspiration and pupil size and minimising digestion
What does the parasympathetic nervous system do?
Returns body to a normal resting state after fight or flight
What neurons are in both parts of the autonomic nervous system?
Motor neurons only
