Nervous system Flashcards
What are the functions of the nervous system
- Communication between body parts
2.integration of body parts - controls all your body’s functions
- recognizes sensory stimuli
What are the 2 types of cells in the nervous system
- nerve cells called neurons
- glia cells⇨ they support the neurons
Every neuron does 3 things:
- Receives impulses
- Sends impulses
- Conducts impulses
Dendrites is the
receiving end of a neuron and gathers all the messages coming into the neuron
The cell body is the
main part and contain’s the nerve cells nucleus
the axon …
extends out of the cell body and carries impulses away from the cell body
These are at the end of the axon and it sends the impulse on its way
Axon Terminal
Axon terminal is also callleddd…
END BRUSHES
4 PARTS OF THE NEURON
Dendrites… Cell body….Axon…..and Axon Terminal
Neurotransmitters are…
chemicals produced by the nerve cells
How do neurotransmitters regulate
how the body responds to the environment
sensory:
sends impulses from the body to the spinal cord then to the brain
motor:
carries impulse away from the brain and spinal cord and toward the glands
Reflex Arc:
nerve pathway that consists of a sensory neuron, interneuron and a motor neuron
Any event, change, or condition in the environment that causes an organism to react is called a
stimulus
