Nerve Structure Flashcards

1
Q

dendrites

A

receptive zone so of a neuron. most of the info coming in from other neurons is transmitted at these processes

Q

axon hillock

A

Functionally called the “trigger zone” because if the membrane of the cell body depolarizes sufficiently, or reaches threshold, and action potential (nerve impulse) will start and continue along the axon

Q

Axon Terminals

A

just like what it sounds like. When action potential reach this structure, NT’s are released in the synaptic cleft from the pre synaptic cell.

Q

Cell body and Cell Membrane

A

Business of neuron, ie NT production, occur hear. The membrane is where excitatory and inhibitatory inputs are summed along the membrane before the threshold voltage reaches the axon hillock

node

A

small gap at the points where two Schwann cells meet, and membrane of axon remains exposed

Q

Schwann cells

A

found only in the PNS. myelinate (insulate) the membranes of the axons, significantly increase the speed of nerve impulse
