Nerve Functions And Course Flashcards
Axillary Nerve
C5-C6
- innervates teres minor muscle and deltoid
- dislocated shoulder and fractures could cause injury to this nerve
- shoulder abduction and ER affected
- unilateral shoulder shrug present
Musxulocutaneos Nerve
- C5 to C7
- innervates biceps bracchi, brachialis, and coracobracjialis
- weakness with elbow flexion when forearm is supinated
Median Nerve
- C6 to C8
Runs through medial humerus through the cubical fossa and inner gates the wrist flexors. Final place it runs is through carpal tunnel and innervates hand muscles that deal with thumb to pinky movement, MCP muscles and thumb flexion - may get entrapped at pronator Teresa and it also innervates this muscle to allow for pronation
- sensory issues would effect the thumb to the middle half of the 3rd digit
Ulnar Nerve
C8 and T1
- runs under the medial epicondyle of the humerus and innervates two flexor muscles of the wrist and fingers, main contribution is the intrinsic hand muscles with sensory innervation going to lateral two fingers
- entrapment may occur at flexor carpi ulnaris or guyon tunnwl
Radial Nerve
C5-C8, T1
- runs through and innervates triceps and other shoulder extensor as well as wrist supination. Continues down forearm to innervates wrist and finger extensor muscles
- injuries in the armpit could cause compression or entrapment
- runs under lateral epicondyle and may cause supination and extension weakness if entrapped
- sensory issues occur on the dorsal hand
Femoral Nerve
L2-L4
-
Sciatic Nerve
- divides into tibial and common peroneal nerves near the patella and runs Posterior through the piriformis along the medial femur
- innervates the hamstrings and adductor Magnus
Tibial Nerve
Comes off of the sciatic Nerve with contributions from L4-S3
- responsible for plantar flexors, popliteas, tibialis Posterior (plantar flex and invert ankle), flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucinating longus
Common peroneal Nerve
L4-S2
- divides into deep and superficial nerves
Superficial P Nerve
Runs along anterior portion of fibula and innervates peroneus muscles. Eversjon is majn issue unless there is sensory issues
- sensation for majority of lateral leg and dorsum of foot
Deep P Nerve
Runs along interosseussmembrane and innervates ankle DF, toe extensors, and peroneus tertius
- Foot drop if affected
