Nerve Fibers Flashcards
What CN lesion produces medial strabismus?
CN VI (abducent)
Loss of what CN produces lateral strabismus?
Oculomotor (III)
The mandibular nerve carries what fibers that do what?
GSA for cutaneous and proprioception, SVE for arch 1 muscles
What fibers does the auriculotemporal nerve carry?
GSA for cutaneous in tempral region and anterior ear and pg-parasympathetics to the parotid gland
What fibers does the inferior alveolar nerve carry?
GSA to the mental nerve for cutaneous; SVE to mylohyoid and anterior belly of the digastric
What fibers does the lingual nerve carry and to where?
GSA to anterior 2/3 of tongue, mucosa of floor of mouth, lingual gingiva, and palatine tonsil (anterior)
Where does the chorda tympani synapse?
Submandibular ganglion
Where do the parasympathetics from III synapse?
ciliary ganglion
Describe the path of GVAs in the facial nerve
From palatine tonsils and soft palate via the lesser palatine nerves through the Vidian canal thru the hiatus of the facial canal, reaching the cell bodies at the geniculate ganglion, extending back to the internal auditory meatus
Where do the GVAs from CN IX come from?
mucous membrane of middle ear, pharynx, soft palate, tonsillar region, posterior 1/3 of tongue, chemo and baroreceptors
Describe the path of GVAs of the vagus
From mucous membrane of pharynx, larynx, aortic bodies, thoracic and abdominal viscera
What fibers does the otic ganglion carry?
synapse of the parasympathetics from the lesser petrosal (IX), nerve to tensor tympani and tensor levi palatini (V3)
The cranial portion of the accessory nerve innervates muscles with what function?
swallowing and phonation
What fibers does the pterygopalatine ganglion carry?
GSAs from V2, parasympathetics from VII, sympathetics from deep petrosal nerve (to smooth muscle of lower nasal cavity, maxillary sinus, and palate)
Name the cervical origins of the lesser occipital, greater auricular, tranverse cervical, and supraclavicular branches
