reading chart; visual field test with finger
CN 2 and CN 3 light response
check direct and consensual response; in dark setting; for optic neuritis, light shown in the affected eye- pupil will not constrict but consensusl response will occur (opposite pupil will constrict)
CN V
cutaneous sensation; clench teeth for temporalis, move jaw side to side for masseter; corneal reflex
CN 9 and 10
gag reflex (palate should elevate); check for uvula deviation
CN 11
shrug shoulders (trapezius) and turn head (SCM)
CN 12
stick q tip inside cheek and ask patient to use tongue to pish q tip against cheek
