18 climbers were killed in the Himalayas as it was the peak climbing and tourist season. This meant the country lost a large amount of income from tourism.

Disaster emergency committee released an appeal and £41 million was raised to help those impacted in Nepal.
Hampered response effort
Nepal only has one international airport which slowed down the arrival of aid and rescue teams.
Immediate response
Aid workers provided tarpaulins and tents to the homeless and served noodles as a source of food.
Developed nation aid
Many developed nations including the USA and Germany sent specialist response teams and equipment to help those who were trapped in the rubble.
Issue of attitude
Before the earthquake a team of response experts visited Nepal and told people and the government how to prepare. However, as there had not been a large quake for some time they were reluctant to listen and did nothing to limit damage.
