Short term:- Many ran for their lives and attempted to make it inland or to higher ground
Long term:- Many people re-established homes and businesses locally but many more migrated for good to other nations or areas.

They reacted quickly but had to rely on equipment and aid from other nations as most of the areas affected were less economically developed.
DART
This tsunami detection and early warning system was installed via many governments. It provides a tsunami warning so people can get out of the way.
Dog teams and forensic experts
Both of these were sent to locate, rescue and name the dead and injured following the tsunami. They are highly trained and beyond the budget of the impacted LEDC’s.
200 boats
With many fishing vessels destroyed the UN trained 140 boat builders to allow fishing families to return to work and one again have a source of income.
