What is the cause of acquired aplastic anaemia?
Rubella and syphilis.
What is the normal Hg concentration at birth?
14 - 20 mg/dl
When does Hg decline after birth ? What will be its new value?
hemoglobin decline to reach a nadir of 10-11 gm/dl at about 8-12
What is the tx of neonatal anemia?
Whole blood or packed RBC transfusion
Blood: 20 ml/kg
Packed: 10 ml/kg
What are the indications of exchange transfusion?
Chronic hemolytic anemia or hemorrhagic anemia with increased central venous pressure
Severe isoimmune hemolytic anemia(such as Rh incompatibility)
Consumption coagulopathy(such as DIC)
What is the tx of toxoplasmosis?
Triple chemotherapy for up to 1 year

- Folonic acid
- Sulphadiazine
What are the c/f of congenital varicella syndrome?
cicatricial skin scarring in a zoster-like distribution,
limb hypoplasia
neurologic (e.g., microcephaly, cortical atrophy, seizures, and mental retardation),
eye (e.g., chorioretinitis, microphthalmia, and cataracts),
renal (e.g., hydroureter and hydronephrosis)
and autonomic nervous system abnormalities (neurogenic bladder, swallowing dysfunction, and aspiration pneumonia).
What is the tx of varicella in neonates?
Varicella zoster immunoglobulin VZIG vial 125 unit IM
If the neonate developed rash , give IV aciclovir 10mg/kg
What is the tx of HSV infections?
Acyclovir 60 mg/kg/day divided q 8 hr x 14 days (21 days for systemic or CNS)
Ophthalmic vidarabine for ocular leasions.
Supportive.
