8
Q

These are slender worms with the body tapering from the middle to the anterior end. Females are 3-4
mm long while the males are 1.5 mm long with the conical appendage at the posterior and without
spicules. Adults have a smooth cuticula and underlying hypodermis. The apical mouth leads into a short
pharynx connected into a long esophagus partially enclosed into a column of granular cells or stichosome.
A simple intestine runs from the esophagus to the terminal anus

Q

Pinworms are parasitic in human caecum, colon, and the appendix. The slightly retractile mouth
surrounded by three lips opens, which apically passing posteriorly from the mouth is the cuticulate
pharynx. The pharyngeal bulb connects to the tubular intestine and terminates into the rectum, which
opens into the anus. In the male worms, the tubular testis joins the sperm storage organ or seminal
vesicle connected posteriorly to the ejaculatory duct. The ejaculatory duct and rectum open into the
cloaca. Two sets of tubular ovaries and oviducts coil in the middle of the body and proceed forward into
the vulva.

10
Q

The body is cylindrical, tapering towards the end. The males are smaller, measuring from 6-12 inches while
the females are 8-16 inches long. The males have a ventrally curved posterior end with two copulatory
spicules protruding from the slit-like anal opening

Q

They possess buccal capsules that have a
pair of dorsal and ventral cutting plates they use to attach themselves to the intestinal mucosa of their
vertebrate hosts. Their stout, muscular pharynx helps them suck blood and tissue fluids for nutrition.

Q

The causative agent of lymphatic filariasis or more specifically, the Bancroftian filariasis or Bancroft’s
filariasis.

A

Wuchereria bancrofti

17
Q

This filarial worm is found in the lymph nodes of humans. Humans are the only known natural
definitive hosts of W. bancrofti and other filarial worms (e.g., Brugia and Loa). A
