- Church played a part in the Civil Rights movement in 1960s.
- Martin Luther King led marches and demonstrations to end racial segregation.
- Christian teachings and beliefs underpinned his protests.
- Religion led to instability as people questioned the segregation.
- Led to law change and introduction of civil rights all people of all colours.

Iranian Revolution
A
- In the 1970s, religious leaders used religion to stop westernisation and remove secular ideas.
- Religious leaders believed that Iran had become polluted by western ways.
- They wanted to turn Iran back into an Islamic society based on teachings of the Qur’an.
- An Islamic state was re-instated, which meant everyone had to follow strict Sharia law e.g. women have to be veiled in public, boys and girls were to be educated separately.
