Note: include the bonus on total number
Negotiating $$$

Negotiating $$$
From NGO to Private
“I’m sure you know I’m coming from a lower-paying industry where salaries are not in line with the private sector.”
Negotiating $$$
How much do you make?
Use a delaying tactic,
“I want to figure out if there’s an opportunity for me here.”
Negotiating $$$
Once you got the offer?
Making them wait…
“I’m thrilled you want to hire me. Could you just give me a couple of days to think about it?”
come back with specific questions about the package…
Negotiating $$$
What matters to you, the package…
Review and negotiate the entire package: • your scope of responsibilities, • base salary, • bonus, • frequency of reviews, • promotion possibility • 401(k) % match, waiting period, vested period, • 403b pension plan • Health benefits • vacation time, • technology you’ll be using, • where you’ll sit.
Negotiating $$$
Get to know the package…
Ask in this order:
- ASK EASY Q: 401(k), when can I get into the 401(k) match
- ASK EASY Q: ask about your reporting relationships
- ASK TOUGH Q: TOP PRIORITY= Bonus % discretionary; % group performance; % individual performance and achievements; benchmarks reached;
- ASK EASY Q: what type of platform? can I use a mac instead of PC?
- ASK TOUGH Q: BASE SALARY= Can we do any better than “the offer”
NOTE: remember to resell yourself when renegotiating the salary:
• I like to keep my self busy and a great performance is extremely important….
