A) Caregiver’s failure to provide for children’s physical, educational or emotional needs.
What are the Characteristics of Victimized Children ?
A) Girls are about 25% more like to be victims
B) Toddlers/Preschoolers and adolescence are the times that most likely to be abused
Why does neglect and maltreatment happen more in low SES families?
i. More stress
ii. Lower education
iii. Less child supervision
iv. Substance abuse
What is the family structure like where neglect/maltreatment is present?
- is usually single parents and are more likely for physical abuse
- single-fathers are more likely to physically abuse
Who are likely perpetrators?
- Nearly 50% of abuses are fathers and father figures

What is a cause of neglect?
ii. The choice to the parent that doesn’t know how to deal with the child while decide not to hit the child and hurt the child and then will withdrawal instead

What is poor emotional regulation?
i. Type of emotion and timing of emotions
ii. Knowing how to modulate your emotions
iii. Emotions cue you in to environmental factors
iv. Children learn emotions through the experiences with their parents
What are poor peer regulations?
i. Usually mirror what is experienced in the home
ii. Hostile Attribution Bias
iii. Hypervigilance
What are the Later outcomes of neglect and abuse?
i. cycle of violence hypothesis
ii. Sexually abused children have chronic issues in self-esteem, poor emotional regulation, depression, eating problems and such
