Negative feedback Flashcards
State the hormone that is released from the adrenal gland and its effect on the body
Adrenaline is produced by the adrenal glands in times of fear or stress. It
increases the heart rate and boosts the delivery of oxygen and glucose
to the brain and muscles, preparing the body for ‘flight or fight’.
What is the level of thyroxine in the blood controlled by?
Negative feedback
Define Negative Feedback
Our body’s way of monitoring changes in internal conditions and then responding to these changes so that homeostasis is regained
What happens when the level of thyroxine in the blood is low?
The pituitary gland releases TSH into the bloodstream which stimulates the the thyroid to release thyroxine
What happens when the level of thyroxine in the blood is high?
The secretion of TSH from the pituitary gland is inhibited which reduces the amount of thyroxine released fro the thyroid gland so the level in the blood falls back to normal
